High school playoff baseball and softball updates
Saturday showed a lot of promise for several baseball teams in the Borderland as many advanced to the next round, while others saw their postseason come to an end.
In 6A, the Montwood Rams are area round champions after beating Weatherford 8-1, and will advance to the regional quarterfinals. While the Socorro Bulldogs are also area round champions for the first time since 2009 after topping Arlington Lamar 7-6. Socorro will face Arlington Martin the following week.
But in 5A, many times were eliminated. Hanks lost to Lubbock Coronado 3-0 after being swept in the series, while Parkland lost to Amarillo 7-1, along with Bel Air who also lost to Randall 7-2. Eastlake was the final team in 5A to be eliminated after losing to Abilene Cooper 7-3.
As for softball, defending champions Onate were shutout against La Cueva in the 6A state title game 5-0. But Coronado will advance to the semi finals after beating Timber Creek handily 13-4.
