City Rep.-elect Annello’s husband remains in critical condition after head-on crash
Albert Halpern is still recovering at University Medical Center after a head-on collision near Marfa early Tuesday morning.
County Commissioner David Stout, Halpern’s boss, told ABC-7 he underwent surgery on his left leg yesterday and faces additional surgery to repair broken facial bones next week.
Halpern and his wife, city Rep.-elect Alexsandra Annello, married Saturday, three days before the crash
Halpern, Annello, and two other passengers were struck head-on by a car that crossed the median while traveling west on U.S. 67 in the eastbound lane facing oncoming traffic, according to Department of Public Safety reports.
Investigators said the driver of the other vehicle, 42-year-old Eric Keith, from Midland, was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.
Halpern suffered two broken legs, a broken pelvis, a broken back, a lacerated spleen, a punctured lung, and is bleeding in his brain.
Annello and the other two passengers in their car didn’t suffer any critical injuries.
