Local businesses learn to keep patrons safe and profits flowing

The YMCA of El Paso will host a training for local businesses who serve alcohol.

Some of the topics that will be covered in the training include how to stop customers from being served too much and how businesses can protect their liquor licenses.

“There’s not a week that goes by that you don’t hear about a DWI, or some type of issue that happened at a restaurant. But most police officers can tell me, when I have interviews with them, is that most crime has a correlating factor, which is usually alcohol,” Jeremy Jordan said, project manager at Alcohol Impact Network.

Research shows responsible beverage service training can reduce excessive alcohol use. The Center for disease Control estimates that alcohol related incidents, like crashes and healthcare, costs taxpayers $1.8 billion in Texas. In El Paso alone, that cost is estimated at $48 million. The training is June 21 at 3 p.m. in the Education Service Center at Region 19 on 6611 Boeing Dr.
