‘A reset button’ for Las Cruces salon owner able to reopen after virus restrictions lifted
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- After months of being closed, business owners across the state of New Mexico have been able to operate at a limited capacity, with many finally able to re-open their doors as of June 1.
Back in May, Las Cruces salon owner Robert O'Brien told ABC-7 she was concerned she was not going to be able to stay open as salons were not listed in Gov. Michelle Lujan-Grisham's first slight reopening phase.
Three weeks later, O'Brien and her booth renters are back at work as salons have been able to reopen at 25-percent capacity.
“We are allowed to have one person per hair dresser and or nail technician," O'Brien said. "On the boutique side I can have up to two people as long as I don’t have some one sitting on my side."
Other safety measures include adding plexiglass shields for customers who get manicures. Hair stylists are also given face shields to wear while they cut hair.
"I think this has been a reset button," O'Brien said. "I do appreciate our customers and I do appreciate them coming back, its so nice to see them again, we’ve missed them."
