$1M grant approved for construction of 3 all-inclusive playgrounds in El Paso
EL PASO, Texas-- New all-inclusive playgrounds are coming to the Borderland. El Paso County Commissioners approved a million grant Monday to cover half of the cost of the new project.
The parks involved are Ascarate, Gallegos and Risinger. The new playground features will include flat surfaces with no curves, no rocks, no mulch and no grass. This makes it easier for people in wheelchairs or walkers to get around.
The new playgrounds will also include all-abilities playground equipment, fencing and new signage in all three parks.
The grant for the all-inclusive parks was for $1 million. Moms on Board will also contribute $750,000, and the county will contribute $250,000 for a total of $2 million.
A press conference featuring the County of El Paso, Moms on Board (mob), and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department was scheduled for Tuesday to provide the community with more information on the construction of the parks.
