Panthers QB Mayfield meets Browns in ‘Baker Bowl’
By The Associated Press
Call it the “Baker Bowl.” There’s a ton of hype surrounding Carolina’s home opener against the Cleveland Browns in what amounts to the Baker Mayfield revenge game. Mayfield faces his former team, which traded him away after pursuing and eventually landing QB Deshaun Watson. Cleveland agreed to pay $10.5 million of Mayfield’s salary this season before dealing him away for a conditional fifth-round pick. Mayfield took a $3.5 million pay cut to help facilitate the trade and get out of Cleveland. Now he gets a new start with the Panthers, who have plenty of quality playmakers to work with including Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore and Robbie Anderson, as well as a revamped offensive line.
