Vines injures leg; Sargent, Carter-Vickers back on field

American left back Sam Vines injured a leg and needed surgery, eliminating him from consideration for the U.S. World Cup roster. Forward Josh Sargent and defender Cameron Carter-Vickers returned to their club starting lineups on the last weekend of matches before U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter announces his roster. A 23-year-old from Colorado Spring, Colorado, Vines had surgery at AZ Monica Deurne hostpital in Antwerp, Belgium, Vines’ club. Vines last played on Oct. 30 against Charleroi. He has nine international appearances and was considered a possibility for the U.S. roster as a backup to starting left back Antonee Robinson.
