Is Matthew McConaughey going to run for Texas governor? Talk radio and blogs are buzzing
AUSTIN, Texas -- Actor Matthew McConaughey has long been a popular figure in the Long Horn state as a result of his charitable work, which included most recently supplying hospitals across Texas with personal protective equipment.
But is the Texas native considering a bid for governor? In recent days, some talk radio hosts and political bloggers in Texas have raised the idea and seem to be encouraging him to do so.
'Miles in the Morning' on Talk Radio 1370 AM in Austin says of McConaughey: "He has never been shy about expressing his beliefs and using his position to promote awareness, he seems to have really amped his game as of late... (He) is outspoken on many of our present-day issues."
The blog Texas Takes is much bolder, offering this prognostication if McConaughey were to enter the race: "Politics, gender and race all become irrelevant when you throw McConaughey in the mix. He is Texas and if you polled the citizens of this great state, you’d get well over 50% who'd vote for him to be their voice and their representative."
But this talk seems to be all bark and no bite. McConaughey has not indicated any interest in running for public office and he hasn't responded to these rumors floating around.
