Former judge launches tequila line
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) - A former El Paso Municipal Court Judge Rick Olivo has stepped out from behind the bench, and up to the bar. He's come up with a unique brand of tequila.
" You can sip it, smell it, swirl around like you would wine. You get these aromas and you sip it. You get pepper, mint, sage, and earth tones," Olivo explains. His passionate is abundantly clear when he talks about his own brand of tequila, called Don Rico. He says he spent fifteen years tasting and finding out about the process of how it's made.
Olivo says this journey began when he was general counsel for a tequila company. His interest was piqued, and the rest is history. He and his wife Sharon, both UTEP alum, and their children, have spent time in Mexico. They've been certified in the unique process to make Don Rico's additive-free, small batch tequila. He shares the business with two former classmates, as well.
You can find Don Rico on local store shelves, like Spec's, and downtown at Ambar Restaurant, or visit the company's website at https://www.ayquerico.com .
