El Paso, TX(KVIA)- You can't deny the power of music, and one local El Paso man, Carlos Barba, is determined to show the Borderland why music and art remain a powerful way to unite the community. "I can not imagine a world without music," he said.
After graduating from Franklin High School, he studied at UTEP and ultimately received his bachelor's and master's degrees. Currently, he teaches music for Ysleta Independent School District.

Barba regularly plays in venues around El Paso, Juarez, and Las Cruces and has spent 15 years as a dedicated musician. At a young age, he was determined to learn all there is to know about music and emerge as an artist. The soothing sounds of music have far-reaching benefits. It activates just about all of the brain, which is vital for young musicians and students. His love for music has inspired him to teach young musicians.
"When you're a new musician, you need to be inspired, you need to be guided, you need to be led a certain way, and get these students better than when they met me."
Carlos explains that people identify with all types of music and can build relationships, and performing feels excellent for artists.
"it feels great to be part of something greater than just yourself; music can be a great vehicle for that," he explained.

He is the Artistic Director of the El Paso Youth Jazz Ensemble and is passionate about helping young students advance in their musical abilities: epyouthjazz.org and Carlosbarbapiano.com.
