Mold A Concern For Some Soaked Borderland Homes

EL PASO, TX. – As a result of the historic rains and flooding, yet another problem could be brewing in Borderland homes.

According to the City-County Health District, mold could be a threat to area homes and residents. Officials add that any mold in large amounts could be dangerous

The City-County Health District says molds can cause big health problems, especially to those with week immune systems, or those who have asthma.

The district says molds are usually not a problem indoors, unless mold spores land on a wet or damp spot and begin growing. While it’s not usually a problem in El Paso because of the dry climate, with days of heavy storms and floods it could now be a different story.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)says it’s important to clear out water damage within the first 24 to 48 hours to reduce the potential for mold.

The City-County Health District says residents can clean small amounts of mold ontheir own. Firstresidents must make sure their home is dry, then mix bleach with water and make sure to use gloves, and a small mask when cleaning the mold up.
