State Senator To Head Gadsden School District

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) – The Gadsden school district has appointed a state senator to fill in as the district’s superintendent.

Cynthia Nava will serve in the interim while the school board searches for a permanent superintendent. She replaces outgoing superintendent Ron Haugen, whose last day is today.

School board member Jennifer Viramontes says the board chose Nava because she is familiar with the district’s operations. Nava has worked for the school district for 26 years. She has served as director of special education and assistant superintendent for instruction.

Some 14,000 children attend the 26 schools that make up the Gadsden school district.
