Man Convicted Of Deming Wal-Mart Shooting Gets 25 Years
DEMING, NM — The man accused of shooting and wounding a young girl in 2005 at Wal-Mart store learned his punishment on Wednesday. Vincent Cantone will serve 18 years behind bars.
Cantone, 25, had pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, in addition to felonious possesion of a firearm and abuse of a child.
Surveillance video showed Cantone and his brother attempting to steal video games from the store, and making a dash for the exit. When employees apprehended the two men and brought them back inside, Cantone pulled out a gun and fired a few shots, authorities said.
No one was killed, but a stray bullet struck Serena Carrizosa, who was 4, in the hip. She had to undergo three surgeries, but has since fully recovered,authoritiessaid.
