Mayor’s Race Focused On Growth In New Mexico’s Second Largest City

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) – Las Cruces residents are choosing a mayor Tuesday, November 6th.

Mayor Bill Mattiace is running for a second four-year term against City Councilor Ken Miyagishima.

City election officials said they’d been bombarded by calls this morning from residents wanting to know where to vote. Some of the calls came from residents of surrounding Dona Ana County. But county residents can’t vote in the city election.

Workers at polling places say they also had to direct some voters to their correct polling place. The polls are open until 7 p.m. Much of the campaign has focused on growth in Las Cruces.
