Morning Fire In Northeast El Paso Ends Without Injury
EL PASO – Fire crews made quick work of a house fire that broke out in Northeast El Paso on Wednesday.
The flames broke out around 10 a.m. at a home locatedon the 5600 block of Prince Edward. The one resident of the home, Frank White, 77, said he was watching television when his electricity went out. He told fire crews he smelled smoke and saw flames and made a quick exit from his home.
White also said hedecided to get his car away from the house, which he managed to do safely.
As many as 30 fire crews battled the blaze, and some had to be pulled back from the building after crews said the roof had become compromised. “The roof started to feel spongy,” said Battalion Chief Mitch Farley. “We were concerned for the safety of our firefighters.”
The house has a double roof, and the flames were in between the two roofs, Farley said. No injuries were reported.
Investigators are still looking into the cause, and damage is estimated at $115,000.
