BP Agents Guilty In Shooting Of Alleged Illegal Immigrant Transporting Drugs
EL PASO, TX. – Two Border Patrol agents are found guilty in the shooting of an alleged drug smuggler in Fabens.
Agents Jose Alonzo Compean and Ignacio Ramos allegedly got into a physical confrontation and chased alleged drug smuggler Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila. Agent Ramos then allegedly shot Alderete-Davila in the buttocks as he fled back into Mexico.
While both Compean and Ramos were charged with a dozen federal crimes, they were found not-guilty of the charge of Assault with Intent to Commit Murder.
Agent Compean told jurors he didn’t report the incident because he thought no one would believe him. He also testified that he picked up several of the bullet casings and threw them into a ditch after the incident.
Jurors received the case on Monday and reached a verdict early Tuesday afternoon.
