Human Skeleton Found In Santa Fe Area

SANTA FE, N.M.(AP) – The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department is trying to determine the identity of a human skeleton found on a remote area of Atalaya Mountain in the Santa Fe area.

Santa Fe County sheriff Greg Solano says the skeleton — probably that of a man — was discovered by a hiker the evening of November 4th.

Sheriff’s Sergeant Belarmino Lopez says the skeleton probably had been there for a year to a year-and-a-half. He says an autopsy by the state Office of the Medical Investigator did not determine a cause of death.

Clothing — including a down-filled jacket, sweat shirt and gloves — were found with the remains. Lopez says that indicates the person probably died during cold weather.
