UPDATE: Community Helps Quinceanera Featured On ABC-7
EL PASO, TX. – A birthday girl and her family came to ABC-7 after the hall they had paid for in advance for her quinceanera closed its doors.
With some help from the community, the party will go on. Yvette Serrano was heartbroken when she went to the Sole Ballroom to practice for her party and found the hall had been foreclosed.
Friday, she has a huge smile on her face and an entire community to thank. Serrano’s mother had worked six-days a week to save up for her daughter’s$6,000 party. When they went to the hall to practice, they found out it had been shut down, and they would be out of the money and a party.
After hearingABC-7’s storyThursday night, a part-owner of New World Café donated$700 worth of food and catering services for the party and that’s not all. Riverside High School classmates of the birthday girl got togetherFriday morning to bake her the perfect cake. The three-tiered confection is mandarin orange flavored with buttercream icing.
The culinary arts pastry chef says her and her students wanted to come together to help a fellow Riverside Ranger. “We got a call this morning from a teacher that said this terrible thing had happened and we thought we could donate for her party. We whipped out some brisket and we had some bakers who were very anxious and said let’s bake her a cake,” said Julie Nugent.
The party is still set to take placeSaturday night at 6 p.m. at the Sole Ballroom. The group that owns the ballroom is opening it for her. Almost all of the services for the party are covered. However, the family still needs two security guards.
