Concerns Over Sportspark Renovation Costs

EL PASO, TX. – ABC-7 obtained a packet of news articles concerning Big League Dreams, Inc.the corporation county commissioners are hoping will revamp the Sportspark in East El Paso.

The packet was put together by a city representative from League City, which is in the Galveston area. The packet included news articles from different cities that have, or tried getting, Big League Dreams facilities.

The representative focused on the problems League City had with Big League Dreams including spending millions more than anticipated to build the sports complex. El Paso Commissioner Luis Sarinana said he was concerned when he got the information also, but remains confident El Paso won’t have the same problems with our Sportspark renovation:

“Many of those towns were building from the ground up. So sometimes it’s hard to tell how much it’s gonna cost,” Sarinana said.

Commissioner Sarinana said the county iscurrently in contract negotiations with Big League Dreams and adds he will not agree to sign any contract if the corporation doesn’t agree to the county’s wishes.
