Shrode Defends Credentials To Commissioners
EL PASO – El Paso’s medical examiner went before Commissioner’s Court on Monday to answer questions about his credentials.
ABC-7broke the story two weeks ago about the qualifications Dr. Paul Shrode listed on his resume when applying for the Deputy Medical Examiner position with the City of El Paso.The station’s investigative report indicatedShrodelisted somequalifications he didn’t actually have.
Shrode defended his credentials saying he graduated from Texas Tech Medical School and held two fellowships in pathology. Shrode says thatthose two make uphis graduate medical education.
After the presentation, commissioners told Shrode they were all confident in his abilities and glad he had good answers totheir questions.
“It struck me as odd how on this one part where you’re suppose to sell yourself it says none, none, none, none.He said,I don’t have to sell myself,”said Commissioner Dan Haggerty. He addedthat “people don’t look for a medical examiner, you end up with a medical examiner.”
Shrode told the court he was supposed to take his certification exam in October, but he was subpoenaed to testify in court on a case. Shrode said he will try againin thesummer of 2008.
The state of Texas does not require doctors to be certified in their field of practice.
