No NFL Network On Time-Warner, No Cowboy Game For EP

EL PASO — A possible NFC Championship preview between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers will not be available for Time-Warner customers, company officials said Wednesday.

Next week’s game between the Cowboys and the Packers will be televised on the NFL Network, which is not available on Time-Warner. The network is available on Dish Network and Direct TV.

That situation hasupset many Cowboy fans in El Paso. Many – including state representatives and politicians – are pressuring Time-Warner to add the network.

“I think the local cable company should come through for the fans and do something,” said Mike Barron, who follows Cowboy football.

Currently, Time-Warner and the NFL Network have not been able to reach an agreement because the NFL wants the network to be on the basic cable line-up.Time-Warner has said that would be too expensive. The companyhas toldABC-7 there is no end in sight to the dispute.

The situation has left many fans looking for bars or restaurants that carry the network in order tobe able to watchthe game.

“People have been calling for about two weeks and I expect to get a lot more calls in the next week or so,” said Ted Aikman, the owner of King’s X. “We’ll have a full house. I figure we’ll probably double our sales for that evening.”

Local radio host Steve Kaplowitz said it’s been a major topic on his show. “A lot of people are not happy and they’ve been waiting until this D-day to actually happen,” he said. “It’s coming.”

In the end, the fans consider themsevles as the biggest losers froma lack of compromise.
