EL PASO, TX. – Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, it’s that busy time of year for holiday shopping. But that usually means longer wait times at the international ports of entry.
With Mexican shoppers commuting more to El Paso to do some holiday shopping, Congressman Silvestre Reyes wants to do something to alleviate the long wait at the bridges.
People waiting at the international bridges told ABC-7the lines can get to be so long that the time spent crossing is up to an hour and a half.
It’s those long wait timesthat Congressman Reyes wants to address Monday at anews conference in Downtown El Paso. Reyes isgoing before the House Committee on Homeland Security to discuss his concerns.
The congressman is also expected to outline a plan to shorten the wait time.Shoppers from Mexico told ABC-7 they would spend more of their money on this side of the border if the lines were shorter.
“IfI knew the wait times were 10or 15 minutes,I would come over much more often,” one man said.
The conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m.at the Camino Real Hotel. ABC-7will be there to see what Congressman Reyes has to say.
