Women Being Evicted After Home Intrusion
EL PASO — Two women living in a Northeast El Paso apartmentsay they’re being wrongfully evicted after a wanted man broke into their home to seek refuge from the law.
Neither resident wanted to be identified.Onesaid anintruder ran insidetheir unit at the Amberwood Apartments and asked for help. Moments later, police made their way inside and arrested the suspect.
“It was pretty scary,” one of the women said.Both described how officers broke downa bedroom door to get to the suspect as he was trying to jump out the window.
A short time later, the women’s landlord gave his two tenants24 hoursto vacate the premises. The women said the explanation they were givenwashaving an unauthorized visitor in their apartment.
“We don’t know him,” one of the tenantssaid they told the manager,in protest to the notice.Another resident of the complex, a man whodid not want to be identified,has since told ABC 7he saw everything andconfirmed his neighbors did not know the suspect was wanted by police.
Police said officers tried to serve the suspectwith a criminal warrant.
ABC-7tried contacting the manager, but the office was closed at 6 p.m., even though a phone recording said the officecloses at 6:30. News personnel made several attempts to contactthe Amberwood Apartment management, but did notreceive a call back in time for the late eveningbroadcast.
