No Bond Given For Admitted Smuggler Shot By Border Patrol

EL PASO, Texas (AP) – An admitted drug smuggler shot by a pair of U.S. Border Patrol agents remains jailed.

Osvaldo Aldrete Davila was in federal court Thursday to ask for bond, but the hearing ended without a decision.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Richard P. Mesa gave Aldrete’s lawyer, Ruben Hernandez, until next week to submit written evidence in favor of letting Aldrete free before his trial on drug smuggling charges.

Aldrete was shot two years ago while fleeing from a pair of Border Patrol agents after a failed smuggling attempt. He has admitted smuggling drugs the day he was shot and is now charged in other smuggling efforts.
