Fishing Day At Ascarate Park Promotes Nature For Youth

EL PASO — The Ascarate Fishing Club held a ‘fishing day’ event at the park Saturday to promote fishing among El Paso’s youth.

The organization is an all-volunteer,catch-and-release club that also educates young people on nature and sustainable living. The free event brought out adults and children alike as an opportunity for family bonding as well.

Gabriel Moreno said that was one part he appreciated the most. “[It was] just something I wanted to do with my little boy,” Moreno said.

The event was the first of four scheduled for 2008, the next one set for April 19. Children ages 3 to 16 can register with the Ascarate Fishing Club and anyone 17 or over needs to have a valid Texas fishing license.
