Search For New Police Chief Narrowed To Five Finalists

EL PASO — City Manager Joyce Wilson announced on Monday the top five finalists for the chief of police position for the El Paso Police Department.

The five finalists have a combined 124 years of experience in law enforcement,Wilson said.”We need a strong leader to sustain and enhance the performance of our highly recognized police department,” she said.

The finalistsare Kenith Adcox, a 20-year veteran who is a deputy police chief; Sylvia Aguilar, a retired El Paso police officer with 25 years of experience; Gregory Allen, the current interim chief; Diana Kirk, an assistant chief; andClaudio Morales,who’s been acommander in the El Paso Sheriff’s Office forthe past 27 years.

“They are a good cadre of highly qualified local candidates who know and understand the El Paso community,” Wilson said. “There is no need to look outside our region for the next police chief.”

The city began recruiting for the position in November of 2007 and received 43 applications from throughout the entire country, Wilson said.

Wilson said the finalists will have to take part in three interview sessions anda community forum, whichis scheduled for March 27. The forum will take place 6:30 p.m. March 27 atthe Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, 1359 Lomaland.

The forum is being sponsored by the El Paso Neighborhood Coalition, the El Paso Police Foundation and the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce.
