8 Arrested In Connection To Drug Cartel

EL PASO, Texas – The Drug Enforcement Administration announced the arrest of eight members of a large drug trafficking organization Friday.

Rafael Garcia, Jorge Garcia, Manuel Gonzales, Aida Cervantes, Andres Cardenas, Margareta Avila, Melissa Avila and Michael Avila were arrested Thursday. More than 1,600 pounds of marijuana were also seized.

According to officials, the suspects were a part of the Rafael Garcia Drug Trafficking Organization. DEA, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, El Paso Police, the U.S. Border Patrol and the United States Attorney’s office have been investigating the group. The Garcia DTO is predominantly involved in the illegal importation, bulk storage, and transportation of large quantities of marijuana into the United States for Mexican drug cartels, officials said. According to DEA, the organization was also responsible for transporting large quantities of the drug to cities throughout the United States.
