Residents Still Feel Stormwater Fees Are Too High

EL PASO, Texas – El Paso’s stormwater utility debate continued Tuesday at the city council meeting. This utility was created to repair destruction left by storm 2006.

Despite a 37% reduction, many residents feel the fees are still too high and think they shouldn’t have to pay anything at all.

Northeast city Representative Melina Castro called for the utility to be dissolved altogether. But, under state law, that can’t happen for at least five years.

Councilors voted 4-3, against letting the city set the rates and collection process. That will continue to be controlled by the public service board.
