Emergency Crews Assess Passengers After Train Derails In Chicago

CHICAGO (AP) – A four-car Chicago Transit Authority train has derailed on an elevated track on the city’s South Side. There are no immediate reports of serious injuries.

Ten ambulances have been called to the scene and a fire department spokeswoman says at least 24 passengers are being assessed, including 21 listed in good condition and three in stable condition.

The first two cars of the Green Line train are sitting clearly off the tracks at a junction between two lines, but remain upright on the elevated structure.

A CTA spokeswoman says only those two of the train’s four cars appear to have derailed about 10:10 a.m., although the CTA is still investigating.

The affected part of the Green Line runs to the South Side from the city’s downtown.

Service has been temporarily suspended on that part of the line and shuttle buses are in place to assist customers.
