95 Percent Of Texas 8th Graders Pass Reading Test; 75 Percent Pass Math

AUSTIN (AP) – A state report released today shows most Texas eighth-graders passed the state’s standardized test and will advance to ninth grade.

This is the first year that eighth-graders were required by law to pass both the math and reading parts of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills to move to the next grade.

The Texas Education Agency says 95 percent of the eighth-graders passed the reading exam while 75 percent passed the math. They say expect the passing rate on the math exam to increase once results are in from the second time the test was given.

The reading result represent the totals from the first and second administration of the test.

Those who failed will have another chance to pass the tests this summer. The eighth-grade math test will be given again on July 1st and the reading exam on July 2nd.
