Arsenic Levels In Sunland Park Water Above Standard

SUNLAND PARK, New Mexico – Sunland Park residents recently received a letter in the mail telling them their water may have high levels of arsenic.

The water system there routinely checks the water for contaminants and this past April 10th, they found levels of arsenic above the standard. The standard level is 10 milligrams per liter, or ten parts per billion. The recent test found the arsenic level at 19.34 milligrams per liter.

The Sunland Park Water System said that number isn’t high enough to cause residents not to drink their water, but they recommend people with health concerns or compromised immune systems talk to their doctor. The director of the Sunland Park Water Supply said there is no immediate risk to residents.
