ABC-7 Xtra Talk Back, 10.19: Presidential Election

On last night’s ABC XTRA you had a call from a “Mark” who identified himself as a contractor on the Westside who earned between $260,000 and $280,000 whose story sounded suspiciously like that of “Joe the Plumber.” His threat to close his company if his taxes were increased hardly passed the believability test. Did anyone think to ask him if he thought it “fair” that his employees paid 8.25% Social Security tax on all their income, while he paid only on the first $95,000 of his income? Would he think it more fair if he paid the same basic tax rate as his employees and the 8.25% Social Security tax on ALL his income? If he’s to be believed (and I, for one, think he was a total phony) he would pay an extra $14,000 more or less if he did. The truth rate is, his total federal tax rate is less than that of his lowest paid employee.

El Paso needs a big voter turn out on election night. If it’s under 60% again then we should not worry as to which candidate is better for El Paso during elections.

Mr. Sierra is spreading more lies. William Ayers, whiledespicable, he never killed anyone. I wouldn’t condone what Mr. Ayers ever did, but I don’t think we should spread wrong information about anyone. Mr. Anchondo is an attorney, maybe he can set Mr. Sierra straight and let him know that those accusations are slanderous.

How can Obama promise to lower taxes for the middle class when he also said he’s going to let Bush’s tax cuts expire? We’ll end up with a net gain on taxes.
