Man In Tuesday I-10 Accident In Critical Condition

EL PASO, Texas — A 36-year-old Hispanic man whose semi-truck was struck by a tire on Tuesday is in critical condition, El Paso police said.

The accident, which occurred about 2 p.m. on I-10 East at the Geronimo exit, caused back-ups on I-10 for hours.

Police investigators said that according to witnesses, a green pickup truck traveling west on I-10 lost a wheel from a double axle trailer it was pulling. The tire apparently bounced onto eastbound lanes and struck a 2002 Freightliner tractor the 36-year-old man was traveling in.

The semi-truck was seriously damaged, and the driver was taken to Thomason Hospital where he was listed in critical condition as of Tuesday evening, police said.

Investigators believe the driver of the truck pulling the trailer was unaware the trailer lost a wheel at the time of the collision.

Police are asking for the community’s assistance in notifying the person pulling this trailer to contact investigators to help investigators close this case. Anyone with information is asked to call 832-4400.

This incident is being considered accidental, police said.
