Cause Of House Explosion Near Las Cruces Still Unknown
DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. — Investigators still have not determined a cause for the explosion of a home east of Las Cruces, the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.
Investigators from the sheriff’s department and the Dona Ana County Fire and Emergency Services Department continue to sift through rubble at the scene to find evidence that could shed light on the cause of last Thursday’s explosion, officials said.
The FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the New Mexico State Fire Marshal’s Office are assisting with the investigation.
Laboratory analysis could take two or more weeks, and the cause will not be released until all evidence is processed, sheriff’s officials said.
The site is considered a crime scene and has been fenced off.
