What You Should Know About Scabies
Nine more confirmed cases of scabies in students were reported in the Ysleta ISD on Friday, Ysleta ISD officials said.
The new cases are: two more cases at Bel Air High School,one case at Del Valle, two cases at Le Barrol Park Elementary, one case at RFK Pre-K, two cases at Valley View Middle School and one case at Ysleta Elementary.
El Paso Independent School District also reported one more case at Richardson Elementary on Friday.
Socorro ISD reported one more case at Benito Martinez Elementary School on Friday as well.

In YISD alone, there are 55 confirmed cases of scabies and in El Paso County, there are 67 confirmed cases of the itchy infection.
Clint ISD has reported two confirmed cases of scabies at Montana Vista Elementary. The cases were discovered by a school nurse Thursday morning and confirmed by a physician, Clint ISD spokeswoman Laura Cade said.
The district plans to send a notice home to parents with information about scabies and a thorough disinfection of the campus Thursday night.
An additional confirmed case of scabies has been reported at Burleson Elementary in the El Paso ISD, El Paso ISD spokeswoman Bernice Zubia said. Zubia said this brings to the number of total cases to twoat Burleson.
At Socorro ISD, one more confirmed case of scabies has been reported at Escontrias Elementary, district spokeswoman Vicki Icard said. The district also received confirmation Thursday of a case that was reported March 4 at Montwood Middle School. Officials said Wednesday that a student at Hueco Elementary had a confirmed case of scabies.
This brings the total number of confirmed scabies cases at Socorro ISD to 4, including the newest case out of Benito Martinez Elementary School.
The district is sending letters home to the parents from a school where an active case of scabies has been identified, Icard said.
The City of El Paso is working with school districts to inform parents on scabies.
Here is what you should know about scabies:
Scabies is present in the human population at all times. It is caused by a mite, an insect barely visible to the naked eye that burrows, or tunnels, under the outer layer of skin. Symptoms include; lesions and rashes accompanied by itching. A person contracts scabies by direct contact with an infected individual, or by contact with contaminated clothing or bed items. To prevent the spread of scabies in a household, all bedding, clothing and towels should be washed in hot water and all floor surfaces, furniture and bedding should be vacuumed. Pesticides should not be used to try to control the spread of scabies. If you or your family members have suspicious skin lesions with intense itching, or if family members have been in contact with a person known to have scabies, consult your physician. Scabies can be effectively treated by a cream prescribed by a physician. All household members should be treated at the same time as the infected person to avoid re-infestation.
