Update: Soldier Dies In Northeast El Paso Rollover Wreck

A 23-year-old Fort Bliss soldier isdead following a rollover that happened early Sunday morning in Northeast El Paso.

The wreck occurred shortly after two o’clock around the 5100 block of Railroad Drive near Fred Wilson.

According to emergency dispatchers, the soldier, who was driving a white 1996 Chevrolet Blazer,was dead when crews arrived at the scene.

Investigators say the driver was heading north on Railroad when his SUV, for unknown reasons, left the roadway and rolled over.

According to El Paso Police Department spokesman Chris Mears, the soldier, who was ejected from the vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

In addition, investigators believe speed contributed to the wreck, which forced the closure of Railroad Drive for several hours Sunday morning.
