CBP Officers Seeing A Variety Of Violations At The Border
It’s been a busy week for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in the Borderland.
The officers made 42 drug seizures from March 20 through March 26, amassing 3,222 pounds of marijuana and a small quantity of heroin.
In one case, CBP officers at the Fabens port of entry apprehended a 15-year-old boy who had been reported missing.
Upon further investigation, the officers found five pounds of marijuana taped to his legs while the boy was trying to enter the U.S. from Mexico on foot.
They turned the boy, a U.S. citizen from Fabens, over to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department.
Meanwhile, CBP officers tallied 137 immigration violations at area ports. Some of these cases consisted of the person trying to cross the border with someone else’s documents.
In other cases, the person would try to cross the border with false or altered documents.
Drugs and immigration violations weren’t the only offenses at the border crossings. CBP officers made a total of 12 agriculture seizures, with violators paying $2,275 in fines.
Apples, peaches, potatoes, mangoes, oranges, avocados, apricots, raw poultry, chorizo, and pork meat were some of the prohibited items that officials seized.
Officers also apprehended a total of 30 fugitives this week, and recovered one stolen car. They also seized prohibited medications as well as ammunition.
