Miner Fans Cheer On Their Team Across The Borderland

By ABC-7’s Daniel Marin

As theUTEP Miners took on Tulsa in the Conference USA men’s basketball semifinal, fired-up Miner fans watched the game across the Borderland. Some of them watched on campus at UTEP.

The fans gathered at the Mine Shaft, the bar and grill inside the student union, and a huge screen was set up along with a bunch of flat screens for students and some faculty to cheer on the Miners in between their classes.

The biggest cheer, of course, came when the game ended and the score went final, 75-61, with the Miners making it 16 wins in a row.

This landed the Miners in Saturday’s Conference USA championship game. Student fans we spoke to said bring it on.

“Great win today. Hopefully we can get the conference championship. So far so good. Let’s hope they keep it up,” said UTEP student Christian Rodriguez.

The championship game is Saturday morning at9:30 El Paso time. The Miners will take on the winner of the game between Southern Miss and Houston.
