UTEP To Play Butler In First Round Of NCAA Tournament

UPDATE: The UTEP Miners will play Butler in San Jose, California Thursday, March 18thin the first round of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. UTEP is the 12th seeded team in the tournament, while Butler is the 5th seeded team.

It was a rock star reception for the UTEP Miners at the El Paso International Airport as the plane carrying the men’s basketball team arrived Saturday night.

The Miner faithful greeted the team, armed with cameras for pictures and basketballs for autographs as they waited for their chance to congratulate the athletes.

Even after that tough loss to Houston in Tulsa, fans yelled out and held up signs in support of the team.

A selection committee will decide Sunday afternoon at 4pm if the UTEP Miners will play in the NCAA tournament.

UTEP fans are invited to watch the selection show with the team at the Don Haskins Center. Doors open at 3pm and admission is free.

ABC-7 will cut in live to programming when UTEP is called.
