Construction Of Roundabout On Sun Bowl Drive Expected To Cause Traffic Congestion
EL PASO, Texas — Construction on a roundabout at the intersection of Sun Bowl Drive and University Avenue is well underway and it’s not expected to be finished until August 15th.
Students are urged to seek an alternate route to campus because heavy congestion is expected on I-10 and Schuster. University Avenue will be closed at Sun Bowl Drive to all thru traffic until the completion of the project.
Student and faculty wishing to drive onto campus will only be able to do so from the east at the intersection of Mesa and University and the intersection of Oregon and University. Once they wish to leave campus, they will have to exit through these same streets because of the closure on Sun Bowl Dr.
As for the parking garage near the Sun Bowl, students and faculty will still be able to access it from Sun Bowl Drive. However, once they leave the parking garage, they will only be allowed to drive north of Sun Bowl Drive. They will not be able to head south to Schuster.
Sun Bowl Drive will also be closed every night from 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. until completion of the roundabout at the intersection of Sun Bowl and University.
City and university officials said the roundabout will help speed up the flow of traffic at the intersection.
