Teen Allegedly Shoots Step-sister With BB Gun Several Times

A mother is facing child abuse charges after her son allegedly shoots her younger daughter with a BB gun several times.

Police detectives charged Amanda Tarin, 31, with negligent child abuse and booked her into the county jail on a $10,000 bond. Police said Tarin’s 4-year-old daughter was shot multiple times by her 14-year-old stepbrother.

The father of the girl alerted police to the incident Sunday afternoon. That’s when she returned to his home after a visit to her mother’s house, police officials said. The father told police his daughter had several bruises throughout her legs that appeared to have been caused by a BB gun.

Police officials said the girl’s injuries were not life-threatening. Detectives learned the girl and her stepbrother frequently play with a BB gun at their mother’s home and occasionally fired the gun at each other, according to police officials.

Police officials said Tarin knew about the conduct and never reported the incidents to authorities or sought medical help for her daughter’s injuries. She was arrested late Sunday evening.

The 4-year-old girl is being cared for by her father and the police department’s investigation into the matter continues. More charges against Tarin are pending, according to police.
