Otto The Dog Returns Home

A heartwarming reunion against all odds.

After Otto was stolen nearly 2 weeks ago, George and Bryan Carver say they were hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

“Tell you the truth, I thought he was gone,” George said.

“We didn’t think we would ever see him again,” Bryan said. “But he’s back.”

Back home where Otto belongs.

George says, petting his best friend again was the last thing he expected.

“The odds were definitely against us,” George said.

It was August 31st when George stopped to help a stranded driver on the 2200 block of Main Street. Moments later, George says 3 teenagers attacked him with a knife, and ran off with Otto, his son’s beloved Boston Terrier. The next day, George’s son Bryan posted flyers around town. And for the next 11 days, all they could do was wait.

“We just kept waiting for him and hoping for the best,” Bryan said.

The Carvers say, a woman walking in South Las Cruces this past Saturday spotted Otto with a homeless man, about 4 miles from where he was stolen. Bryan says he was absolutely shocked when he learned how his dog ended up in the hands of yet another stranger.

“He said he recovered the dog from 3 teenage boys who said they had to get rid of the dog and had to kill the dog if he didn’t take him,” Bryan said. “And that’s how he ended up with it, from what we understand.”

The Carvers say, the woman who found him did not want to be identified and even turned down a reward.

Otto’s collar and tags are gone but other than a small scratch on his nose, the Carvers say their pup is doing just fine.

“We were pretty shocked he wasn’t hurt,” Bryan said. “He was on an adventure there.”

“Poor dog, he came to our house and drank water and drank water and drank water,” George said. “The homeless man hadn’t fed him water I’m sure.”

With his ears perked up and his big bright eyes, getting showered with love from his family, Otto looks happy to be home.

“I felt real bad about the whole situation,” George said. “And the way it turned out I was real happy.”

Police are still looking for the 3 teens who stole Otto. Anyone with information is asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send a tip via text message to LCTIPS (528477).
