Update: Police Identify Man Shot By Police After He Allegedly Shot At Officers
Update: El Paso Police have released the identity of the man shot by police officers Thursday morning after he allegedly opened fire on them.
The man has been identified as Richard Carrizal, 20, of the 7900 block of Cecilia. Officers involved in the shooting were Officer Victor Almanza, four-year veteran and Officer Raul Gallegos, two-year veteran.
Police said Carrizal was armed with a shotgun and began firing at the officers when he opened the door. Officers Almanza and Gallegos returned fire striking Carrizal once in the upper torso. He was transported to University Medical Center for treatment.
Two warrants for Carrizal’s arrest have been issued for the offense of Criminal Attempt Capital Murder. As per departmental procedures both officers have been placed administrative leave.

A 19-year-old man was shot by El Paso Police shortly after midnight Thursday morning after the man allegedly came out of the home firing rounds at officers.
The man, who’s name has not been released, was taken to University Medical Center hospital with injuries that do not appear to be life threatening. The man is facing criminal attempted murder charges. Police’s Crimes Against Persons, a shooting review team and District Attorney officials are at the scene of the incident.
Police first arrived at the home at 11:54 p.m. Wednesday in response to a family disturbance at the home in the 7900 block of Cecilia. Officers were able to separate the fighting parties and left.
At 12:16 a.m. Thursday, police were called out to the same location, this time in reference to shots being fired.
Police said since Feb. 2009, they have been sent to the home more than 30 times for such things as loud partying, drinking, shots fired, etc.
