Upper Valley Construction Ahead of Schedule

Schoolwork can be a daily struggle for some students, but for some parents in one Upper Valley neighborhood, just getting their child to school is a challenge.

A stretch of Lindbergh Ave., from Charl Ann St. to Montoya Dr. has been under construction since the end of last school year.

“It’s all rock. Big rocks,” Charlene Bozman said. “So your car is basically just going back and forth. It’s a mess.”

At least one parent said his tire popped as was driving his son to school. Many of the neighbors say they’re not just upset with the project, they’re fed up with the lack of progress.

“It’s just hard to not see any work going on, to see the road being torn up and then you come out here on the weekends and you see no one working,” Bozman said.

The only work ABC-7 spotted on the day the station crew was in the area was a truck wetting down the road, but city officials insist the project is ahead of schedule.

The construction is the result of Storm 2006 costing taxpayers $15.6 million. Crews plan to install new pavement, new sidewalks that are ADA compliant, and new utility lines are on the way. For some, they can’t come soon enough.

“A lot of people have to come here to pick kids up and I think this should have been done before the school year,” Bozman said. “I have no clue why it’s being done right now.”
