Death Penalty No More Speaking Tour

Being released from death row because of new evidence is a rare occurence.

According to El Pasoans Against the Death Penalty, 139 people – including eleven texasns – have been exonerated from death row since 1973 due to evidence of their wrongful conviction.

Juan Roberto Melndez was the 99th person on the list of exonerees.

He was released on January 3, 2002, after having spent 17 years, eight months, and one day on death row.

Melndez is sharing his gripping story with sun city residents during his speaking tour “La Pena De Muerte No Mas!” or “Death Penalty No More!”
