East El Paso Wreck Leaves One Man Dead

The El Paso Police Department said a crash in east El Paso late Saturday afternoon has left one man dead and two others in the hospital.

Officials said the accident happened near the 3500 block of George Dieter after the driver of a red Honda Prelude ran a stop sign and was hit by a white pickup truck.

Police say the driver of the Prelude, Carlos Acosta, 20, was killed in the crash. His two passengers, Isaac Trujillo, 20, and Ruben Holguin, 19, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials said the driver of the white pickup truck was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

ABC-7 spoke with Lt. Michael Gaither of El Paso Police Department about the crash.

“At this time right now, it just appears that the failure to yield the right of way at the stop sign is going to be the contributing factor at this time,” said Gaither.

According to officials, it is uncertain whether speed or alcohol played a role in the crash, and no charges have been filed at this time.

Police said the investigation will continue.
