Tim Floyd Has A Special Message For UTEP Students
Tim Floyd, who was named UTEP’s 18th men’s basketball head coach on March 30, 2010, is set to make his regular season debut on Nov. 12 at the Don Haskins Center.
Floyd has written a special message to UTEP students in the campus newspaper The Prospector. In the column, Floyd talks about his time at UTEP as an assistant coach from 1978 to 1986.
“Back then UTEP Basketball was such a hot ticket, the students would camp out before the games,” Floyd wrote. “Then 12,222 fans would pack the arena on game day and the visiting team didn’t stand a chance. From 1983-86 ? my last three seasons on coach Haskins’ staff ? we sold out a whopping 25 home games.”
Floyd has posted a 328-180 record in 16 seasons as a college head coach. His teams have made eight NCAA Tournament appearances and three trips to the NIT in previous stops at Idaho (1986-88), New Orleans (1988-94), Iowa State (1994-98) and USC (2005-09).
