Update: Pedestrian Killed Sunday Night Identified
EL PASO POLICE INVESTIGATE 2ND FATALITY COLLISION OF 2011
Date/Time: Sunday, January 9, 2011 @ 6:21 p.m. Location: 2100 Zaragoza Vehicle 1: 2007 grey, Ford F-150 Driver 1: Robert Hernandez, 35 years old, 10780 Pebble Hills, El Paso, TX Passenger 1: Hispanic Female, 4 years of age, 10780 Pebble Hills, El Paso, TX Vehicle 2: Honda Driver 2: Unknown Pedestrian: Ignacio Santiesteban, 82 years old, 12400 Red Sun, EPT (DECEASED)
Ignacio Santiesteban, 82, of the 12400 block of Red Sun, has been identified as the pedestrian that was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday night.
According to El Paso Police, at about 6:21 p.m. Sunday, Santiesteban was crossing the 2100 block of Zaragoza from east to west in a crosswalk.
At the same time Robert Hernandez was driving a Ford F-150 north on Zaragoza and collided with Santiesteban, according to police.
The impact caused Santiesteban to come to rest in the south bound lanes of Zaragoza. While in the roadway a second vehicle, described as a Honda was south on Zaragoza and struck Santiesteban. The Honda fled the scene without stopping.
Hernandez and his passenger were properly restrained and were not injured. STI continues to investigate.
As in all collisions involving a fatality this investigation will be turned over to the District Attorney’s office upon it’s completion. Anybody with information regarding the identity of the vehicle and driver of the Honda is asked to call the police Department at 915-832-4400 or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 915.566.8477 (TIPS).
This is the 2nd traffic fatality of 2011 compared to two at this same time in 2010.
