I-10 Near Las Cruces Reopens After Suicide Attempt

Interstate 10 through Las Cruces has been reopened to traffic after a Wednesday morning crash between an automobile and semi-truck temporarily closed westbound lanes.

An 18-year-old woman was injured in the crash and airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso. Her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The crash was reported at around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, and closed the westbound lanes of I-10, from University Avenue to Avenida de Mesilla, for approximately five hours.

Traffic investigators from the Las Cruces Police Department assisted New Mexico State Police with its investigation into the cause of the crash.

According to New Mexico State Police, the 18-year-old girl told State Police she intentionally tried to hit the tractor trailer because she wanted to commit suicide.
