Sugar Detox: Day 3
This is my first morning shift since I’ve started my sugar detox.
I typically drink one or two cans of soda around 4 a.m. to get me ready and awake for Good Morning El Paso Weekend. I also (*hangs head in shame*) usually eat a candy bar or two in order to let my sugar rush fuel my morning.
I know what you’re thinking. What about coffee?
My first job was at a coffee shop, which ruined my taste for it. So coffee is out.
Side note: If I were smart, my first job would have been at a donut store. That would have saved me literally hundreds of thousands of calories over the past decade.
Mmmmm … donuts.
Back to this morning. I got a good night’s rest, so waking up at 4 a.m. wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
For breakfast, I had a Special K breakfast bar. I must say after my lack of sugar lately, it was almost as good as a candy bar.
Okay, that’s a lie. But it was so much better than oatmeal.
I also brought two of these Stretch Island fruit strips (pictured above). I love the strawberry. They taste like an old-school fruit roll-up but they are good for you. Each one has half a serving of fruit and they come in like ten flavors. I’ve found them at Sun Harvest or Wal-Mart.
As for lunch, I made tuna salad with boiled eggs, lite Miracle Whip, tuna and a ton of dill relish and spread it on toasted whole wheat bread.
I’m still only averaging about two 16-ounce bottles of water per day. That’s less than half the recommended amount. I’m not too worried about that since it’s still a massive improvement from me never drinking water before.
My goal next week is three bottles per day.
Here are some of the great tips I’ve been getting great emails and Facebook messages with tips for cravings.
KC from the radio station 101 Gold said I should give sugar free Dove truffles a try for my serious cravings. She also recommends sweetening heavy cream whipped with Splenda and topped with strawberries, blackberries and blueberries for a healthy dessert.
Sophia said milk is a great way to stabilize your blood sugar when you’re experiencing a sugar crash. She said combining it with a protein rich snack makes it even more effective.
Olga recommends 100 percent juice with lots of ice for a sweet treat.
